Almost 700 pupils from Irish-medium schools across Northern Ireland have taken part in the Scríobh Leabhar (Write a Book) competition, writing their own books in Irish.

Winners were selected by fellow pupils in paired schools and celebrated at an event at St Mary’s University College in Belfast on Monday.

The celebration was organised by An tÁisaonad in conjunction with Bord na Leabhar Gaeilge. Writer Myra Zepf addressed the young winners.

Scríobh Leabhar, which was relaunched this year, is sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge. It aims to encourage children to draw on their creative talents by producing a book in Irish.
