A fire that destroyed two commercial sheds in Sion Mills on Thursday is believed to have started accidentally, according to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. The blaze broke out in the Primrose Park area and burned for over three hours before crews brought it under control at 4.09pm.

Firefighters from six stations attended the incident. Crews from Strabane, Newtownstewart, Castlederg, Crescent Link in Derry, Omagh and an aerial appliance from Northland in Derry responded. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

The NIFRS said the cause was accidental ignition. The two sheds were described as large commercial units. No injuries were reported.
