DUP Leader Urges UK to Challenge Dublin Over Legacy Cooperation
DUP leader Gavin Robinson has called on the UK government to challenge the Irish government over its level of cooperation with Troubles legacy investigations.
His comments followed his intervention during Northern Ireland Questions in the House of Commons, where he raised the record of the Irish authorities on legacy matters.
The Irish government is pursuing legal action against the UK over the previous government’s legacy laws, which established the Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery (ICRIR). Dublin has indicated it will not drop the case until Labour introduces replacement legislation that meets its approval.
Robinson stated that victims are seeking truth and information, but requests from the ICRIR for cooperation and information from the Republic have too often gone unanswered. He described this as unacceptable.
He argued that the UK government must stop handling the issue as a diplomatic inconvenience and instead treat it as a matter of truth and justice for those who suffered.
Robinson said the Irish government could not credibly claim to champion victims while refusing full cooperation, and that the time for words had passed.
