Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council held an event for parent-carers at Theatre at The Mill in Newtownabbey.

The event, titled 'We See You', featured speakers who provided practical advice and information on caring for children with additional needs.

Mayor Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick spoke about her experience as a parent-carer of autistic children.

Kirkpatrick said parents and carers of disabled children often sacrifice career opportunities and personal wellbeing.

She stated the council aims to build an inclusive borough and that the event offered information, advice and opportunities for families to connect.

Other speakers included Sasha Gillespie of Ulster University, Susan Walls of Contact Northern Ireland, Alma White of Caleb’s Cause, and Adenike Yisa.

Broadcaster Paul Clark hosted the event and described his experience caring for his son who has Down’s syndrome.
