The Ulster Farmers' Union has reported strong international demand for wool from Northern Ireland.

A UFU delegation visited facilities in Bradford to observe the grading, auction, and processing stages of wool after it leaves farms.

UFU deputy president Clement Lynch stated that buyers from multiple countries competed for British wool, including lots from Northern Ireland.

Prices for the 2025 clip are approximately 70% higher than previous levels, the strongest returns in ten years.

Lynch advised farmers to sell through Ulster Wool rather than storing wool for extended periods.

He noted that current prices now cover most shearing costs and can produce a surplus, unlike earlier years when returns were minimal.

The delegation also visited the Haworth Scouring Plant, where wool is processed according to customer requirements.

Lynch emphasised the environmental advantages of wool over synthetic fibres.
