Markethill Resident Demands Urgent Road Repair at Gosford Junction
A Markethill resident has written to the Department for Infrastructure demanding urgent repairs at the junction of Mullaghbrack Road and Gosford Road.
James Speers said he witnessed a near-miss incident on a Sunday when a vehicle stalled while crossing a severe dip in the road surface.
He described the defect as a deep trench that forces drivers to slow down sharply when turning from Gosford Road onto Mullaghbrack Road.
Speers stated that the stalled car was nearly hit from behind, calling the outcome fortunate and describing the location as a safety risk.
In a letter to Southern Division Roads, he listed ongoing problems including potholes, uneven surfaces and significant wear across multiple roads in the area.
He requested an immediate inspection and a clear timeline for repairs, warning that continued neglect increases accident risks and vehicle damage costs.
Speers also urged roads officials to drive over the junction themselves to assess the condition directly.
He noted the site carries a high volume of daily traffic despite its small size and said road standards have become unacceptable.
