Chinese Consul General Visits Fermanagh for Cultural and Community Engagements
Mr Li, Consul General of the People's Republic of China, visited Fermanagh recently. Council chairman Barry McElduff hosted him in the district.
Pupils at St Kevin’s College in Lisnaskea performed Irish music, song, dance and poetry for Mr Li. Cllr McElduff stated he felt honoured to host Mr Li and noted the pupils' performances provided a showcase of local talent.
Mr Li met representatives from Cancer Connect’s Devenish Dragon Boat team in Enniskillen. They discussed dragon boating's role in cancer recovery, physical rehabilitation and mental wellbeing. He joined Breda McGrenaghan from Cancer Connect in a tree planting ceremony. She presented him with a design of the Devenish Dragons on Lough Erne by Catherine Swan.
Cancer Connect reported Mr Li viewed their facility and learned about services for cancer clients and families from Phil McGrenaghan. Mr Li expressed thanks for the hospitality and interest in future collaboration with the charity.
Mr Li toured Ardhowen Theatre in the district. He also visited McCallan Bonded in Carrickmore.
Cllr McElduff, deputy chair Shirley Hawkes and chief executive Alison McCullough completed a four-and-a-half-day visit to Huangshi under the Friendly Co-operative Cities Agreement. The trip covered tourism, education and business investment opportunities.
Fermanagh has a Chinese community supported by the Erne District Chinese Families’ and Friends’ Association.
