Newry City Park Land Dedication Approved to Unlock £20m Funding
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has approved the signing and sealing of a Deed of Dedication for Newry City Park. The move releases funding from the Department for Communities.
The council's strategy, policy and resources committee made the decision this week. Committee chairperson Oonagh Hanlon of Sinn Fein stated that the deed is required under the funding contract for the park.
The legally binding document dedicates land at Albert Basin for public use as a 15-acre city centre park. The project totals close to £20m.
The Department for Communities approved the council's Outline Business Case. It provides up to £16.2m from the Executive’s Complementary Fund. The council contributes £2.4m.
A planning application for the park was submitted in April 2025. The council website lists 2027 as the completion date.
