80-Year-Old Woman Displaced from Antrim Home After Car Crash Awaits Repairs
An 80-year-old woman has been unable to return to her home in Cullybackey, County Antrim, since a car crashed into it on 19 December.
Margaret Kyle now stays with a friend while repairs to the property remain incomplete. Her son Thomas Kyle stated her health has worsened since she left the house, which authorities deemed unsafe.
Thomas Kyle contacts the Northern Ireland Housing Executive weekly for updates. The Housing Executive owns the property and has a contractor ready to complete repairs in about two weeks.
The Housing Executive requires Firmus Energy to remove a gas box from the front of the house before work can proceed. Firmus Energy awaits authorisation from the Housing Executive to carry out the removal.
The Housing Executive offered temporary accommodation to Margaret Kyle, which Thomas Kyle described as unsuitable.
Thomas Kyle said his mother suffered strokes over 30 years ago and about two years ago, resulting in mobility issues. She visits her doctor two or three times a week near her home.
Firmus Energy plans to instruct its network operator to handle the gas box work urgently once authorised.
