Special Needs Teacher Fined for Speeding 61mph Past Portadown School
A 32-year-old special needs teacher from Timakeel Lodge, Portadown pleaded guilty to speeding in Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Emma McCormick drove an Audi A4 at 61mph in a 30mph zone on Moy Road and Scotch Street at 9.45am on September 5, 2025. The location passes a primary school.
Her barrister David McKeown told the court the speed occurred where limits change quickly from 60mph to 30mph and back to 60mph. He noted McCormick holds a clean driving licence and requires it for her job supporting children with complex needs including learning disabilities and autism.
McKeown requested maximum penalty points instead of a driving ban to allow her to continue working.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan highlighted the high speed and proximity to the school. He imposed six penalty points, a £250 fine and a £15 offender levy.
