Fermanagh Gardening Society Hosts 60th Anniversary Daffodil Show
Fermanagh Gardening Society held its 60th anniversary Daffodil and Spring Flower Show on April 10 at the Killyhevlin Hotel Lisgoole Suite in Enniskillen. The event marked the Northern Ireland Daffodil Group's 50th anniversary.
Elaine Stinson served as chairman of the organising committee. Richard McCaw arranged for RHS Bulb Expert Group members from England to judge exhibits. Theresa Clements received credit for encouraging their attendance.
Awards went to exhibitors in daffodil, general flower, floral art, and art sections. Dave and Jules Hardy won the RHS Celebration Award and Northern Ireland Daffodil Group Gilbert Andrews Trophy. Brian Duncan took the Hazel Robinson Memorial Cup in miniatures and has bred over 1000 daffodil varieties.
Derek Elliott claimed the Burke Cup and Malone Chalice in the novice section. Elaine Stinson received the Sheridan Salver for older daffodils. Lauren Moore won multiple general flower classes including the Hunter’s Moon cup.
Derrygonnelly Primary School earned the School Garden Award. Irvinestown Primary School received the School Art Award. Five-year-old Arthur O’Kane won the Youth Daffodil Award.
The event included a specialist plant fair, children's activities, and talks by Richard Wilford and Theresa Clements on bulbs. Gardeners Question Time featured Anne Wright, Richard McCaw, and Chris Wiley. Donations supported Chest, Heart and Stroke and Pancreatic Cancer NI.
Past shows faced cancellations in 2001 due to foot and mouth disease, 2020 due to Covid-19, and 1979 due to the oil crisis.
