Lawyers Withdraw from Tyrone Woman's Magic Mushrooms Possession Case
Clodagh Byrne, 33, from Tullycar Road in Aghyaran, Castlederg, faces charges of possessing Psilocybin and Psilocin with intent to supply on July 25, 2024. The substances are classified as Class A drugs since 1971.
Her lawyers withdrew from the case at Omagh Magistrates Court after an expert analysis funded by Legal Aid contradicted her claim that the mushrooms were not illegal. The defence stated they would not use the report.
Byrne previously denied the charges, maintaining the seized items fell outside drugs legislation. The court granted multiple adjournments to secure funding and obtain the expert examination.
District Judge Conor Heaney approved the withdrawal of the defence team. He set the next hearing for April 28, requiring Byrne to attend in person to fix a contest date.
Byrne gained public attention for exposing her breast during an Orange parade in Belfast.
