Members of Portora Boat Club rescued a lamb stranded on the shore of Lough Erne during an early morning training session. The incident took place at around 9am on Sunday, April 12, near Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel and Lodges outside Enniskillen.

Two crews paused their preparations for the Sligo Regatta after hearing bleating across the water. Coach Simon investigated and found a ewe pacing the shoreline. The lamb was trapped 20 metres downstream below a rocky drop amid trees and brambles.

Cox Errie used the coaching launch to reach the shore. She climbed the bank, lifted the lamb to safety and brought it upstream to rejoin its mother.

A club spokesperson stated that Portora rowers have previously rescued a sheep. The Enniskillen athletes now focus on competition, with the women's crews scheduled to race 800 metres in Sligo this Saturday.
