NI Water Foyle Street Project Earns BREEAM Infrastructure Rating in Derry
NI Water completed water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades on Foyle Street in Derry/Londonderry last year. The £4.2m project included reinstatement of the Foyle Street Car Park. It received a Very Good rating under the BREEAM Infrastructure assessment for its sustainability approach.
The work upgraded 100-year-old infrastructure between Shipquay Place and Water Street. Contractors installed 400m of stormwater sewer, new foul sewer and 170m of watermain. Teams made over 50 property connections.
The project employed over 130 site operatives, including apprentices, placement students and engineering trainees. Workers logged almost 34,000 manhours.
NI Water Project Manager Kieran Grant congratulated the project team, BSG PHACE site team and ARUP. He noted support from stakeholders including Derry City and Strabane District Council and the City Centre Initiative. Grant stated stakeholder engagement with businesses and community helped deliver environmental benefits like reduced flooding risk and supported local development.
Jim Roddy of the City Centre Initiative congratulated the team for high standards. He said their engagement with local traders and stakeholders ensured smooth delivery and benefits the city's infrastructure.
The project registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and scored Excellent at 45/45 for safety, quality and community engagement.
