Police in Newry responded to an attempted arson at a property in the Craigmore View area. The incident occurred around 11:30am on Saturday. The occupant heard a bang shortly before 1am on Friday, April 10. Daylight inspection revealed damage to the house.

That afternoon, the same occupant reported an assault by a man wielding a bat. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 28-year-old man. He faced suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

The suspect has been released on bail while police continue their enquiries.
