A man in his 40s was assaulted and robbed in an aggravated burglary in Newry on Sunday evening, police have said.

The incident began at around 9.15pm on September 27 in the McClelland Park area, when the victim was approached by three men armed with screwdrivers.

The suspects, believed to be in their 20s and wearing dark clothing, threatened the man. He fled to a property in Caulfield Place, but the men chased him, kicked the door and threatened him again inside.

They punched the victim in the nose before rummaging through drawers and cupboards in a bedroom. They made off with a phone and a wallet containing cash.

Detective Sergeant Emerson described the incident as a terrifying ordeal that left the victim shocked.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area or noticed suspicious activity to contact them on 101, quoting reference 1404 27/09/26. Residents with doorbell, CCTV or dash-cam footage are urged to review it.
