Maghera Man Denied Bail After Threatening to Burn House
Stephen Johnston, 29, from Tullykeeran Gardens in Maghera, faces charges of threatening to damage property and breaching a restraining order. The allegations stem from incidents on March 21 and 22.
Johnston appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court in Ballymena. Prosecutors stated he made a phone call to a woman and warned he would burn her house down. He added he would burn her child too when informed the child would be present.
Police obtained a recording of the call. An officer noted Johnston has 60 prior convictions and a record of domestic violence incidents.
During police interview, Johnston said his remarks came in the heat of an argument. The court refused bail and set the next hearing for Coleraine Magistrates Court on April 20.
