A 30-year-old man from Tulach Way in Magherafelt faces charges of arson endangering life and unlawful possession of pregabalin on September 18.

Caolan Carlisle appeared via video link from Maghaberry Prison at court. District Judge Conor Heaney released him on £500 bail until April 8.

Bail conditions require Carlisle to live at an address in Greenvale Park, Magherafelt. He cannot enter Tulach Way or Meetinghouse Avenue in Maghera.

He must not contact the complainant, his mother, or any prosecution witnesses. He cannot consume alcohol or illicit drugs and must submit to police tests if requested.

A 10pm to 7am curfew will be electronically monitored. Judge Heaney warned that any breach would revoke bail and return Carlisle to custody.

Police and fire service attended a fire at a Tulach Way house shortly after midnight. They believed Carlisle might have been inside.

The fire started in the kitchen with doors barricaded. The property contained black smoke but no occupants.

Carlisle had called a neighbour stating intent to kill himself and to inform his mother. Police later found him at an address in Castledawson and arrested him.
