The Very Rev Dr R S J Houston McKelvey OBE QVRM TD, former Dean of Belfast, has died. He led the congregation at St Anne's Cathedral from 2001 to 2011. McKelvey served as an author and broadcaster.

He gained recognition for charity sit-outs as Black Santa at St Anne's in Belfast, where he raised millions of pounds for charity. A funeral notice called him the dearly loved husband of Roberta, much loved father of John and father-in-law of Catherine, and adored Pappy of Patrick and Rory.

Organisers of SuperCup NI, a youth football tournament formerly known as the Milk Cup, described McKelvey as a valued supporter for many years. They noted his encouragement made a lasting impression on directors, the management team, and volunteers.

Coleraine Yacht Club announced McKelvey as a long-serving member. He and his wife Roberta contributed to the club's cruising section for many years. The couple owned and sailed a Telstar trimaran off the North Coast and later a Colvic designed cruiser named Kate.
