The National Trust has introduced two new family features at Castle Coole in Fermanagh. A monthly 10km run event starts on Sunday, March 22. The route loops through the estate's parkland.

Runners choose their own pace with no timing or competition. The event suits beginners, families and experienced participants. Gemma Carson, general manager of the Trust's Fermanagh properties, stated the runs provide a way to experience the historic landscape.

Participants must respect the wildlife, historic features and other visitors. People may bring personal timing devices if desired.

Two days later, on Tuesday, March 24, the Trust opens a renewed play area. Local school children and families shaped its design through a 2023 community survey and consultations.

The survey showed the play park as the main draw for child visitors. Feedback noted prior facilities as limited. Input came from 68 pupils at Holy Trinity and Enniskillen Model School, plus parents.

Gemma Carson said play forms the core of visits to Castle Coole. Pupils from the involved schools will test the equipment first at the launch. The site now supports children of all ages and abilities.

The estate offers additional family amenities including nature tracker packs, baby-changing facilities and tearoom items.
