Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has approved a solar farm on Curr Road between Omagh and Ballygawley.

Local businessman Sean Heaney proposed the development, sited close to the A5 Diner and service station. Access will come from Greenmount Road.

The council deferred the application in January for a site meeting. Planning officials then recommended approval, which councillors granted.

Ulster Unionist councillor Allan Rainey, who lives less than a mile from the site, received assurance that no infrastructure would cross the A5 carriageway.

The project includes 13 rows of solar panels, each about 6.5 metres high, on mid-scale land.

A planning report found no significant glint or glare effects on properties or road users, with landscaping measures required. It noted no issues with overlooking, noise, vibration or disturbance.

Approval includes conditions on site access, landscaping and equipment storage.
