Dunmurry Man Denied Bail After Police Find Stolen War Medals in Car
Police found silver and gold jewellery, watches, World War I and World War II medals, and coins in a compartment in the boot of a car belonging to Kenneth Craig from Grahams Bridge Road in Dunmurry. The 57-year-old faces charges of burglary and handling stolen goods after his arrest in connection with a break-in at a house on Kensington Road in Belfast.
The burglary occurred in August 2025 while the homeowners were on holiday. They returned a week later to find a kitchen window forced open and a sensor security light covered. Items stolen from the master bedroom included cufflinks valued at £5,000 to £6,000 and £1,500 in cash.
A man using the name Kenny sold the cufflinks for £50 at a local pawnbroker on August 22. The owner later spotted the items advertised on eBay, leading to their recovery by police.
Craig was detained a week after the sale based on a description from the pawnbroker and details from a signed receipt. His phone held photos of suspected stolen coins and contact numbers for jewellers and gold shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Further valuables were discovered when police searched his seized car in early September. Prosecutors linked some items to burglaries in the same time period and area.
Craig's bail application failed at court. His lawyer requested release for compassionate reasons to visit his elderly and terminally ill mother. Mr Justice Fowler denied bail, citing a high risk of re-offending.
