The Big Andytown Bake Off took place on Friday at Tullymore Gardens as part of this year’s Féile an Phobail programme. The competition, hosted by the Upper Andersonstown Community Forum, invited amateur bakers to enter items across five categories: breads, cakes, tarts, sweet and savoury pastries, and traybakes.

Ciara Agnew won first prize for her Red Velvet Cake, Caramel and White Chocolate Vintage Cake. She said she learned of the event through the crèche at Tullymore and decided to enter her red velvet speciality. Agnew expressed surprise at winning and noted the community focus of Féile.

Michael George of the community forum said the bake-off was conceived by the centre’s women’s and senior groups, who regularly bring in treats. He described the range of entries as impressive and noted the difficulty in selecting winners. He thanked all who contributed and expressed hope the event would continue to grow.
