Two Northern Ireland boxers have won bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Garyn McAllister claimed a bronze in the men's 90kg division. The medal came in his first appearance at the Games.

Willie John McCartan earned bronze in the men's 90kg+ category. His campaign was cut short by injury, but he still secured a podium finish in his debut Commonwealth competition.

Sport NI interim chief executive Richard Archibald congratulated both athletes. He described their achievements as remarkable and a testament to their talent, dedication and hard work.

Both boxers were supported through the Sports Institute and the National Lottery-funded Athlete Award programme, Archibald noted. He added that Northern Ireland has a strong history of boxing success at the Commonwealth Games and the current team is continuing that legacy. More medals may still be decided as the Games proceed.
