Fermanagh Council Seeks Revival of County Show
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council plans to investigate reviving the Fermanagh County Show. The event took place last at Necarne Castle in 2024.
Councillor Sheamus Greene raised the issue at a Policy and Resources Committee meeting. He noted the show's history as one of Ireland's oldest two-day agricultural events and its appeal to rural and urban residents.
Director of Community and Wellbeing John Boyle stated he knows of no plans for a 2026 event. Boyle said the Necarne venue did not succeed in its final year and mentioned talks of another group taking over, though he lacks confirmation.
Boyle described the show as successful and important but a major effort requiring a committed organisation.
Greene suggested council contact past and potential organisers to gauge interest. He attended events there, including the last at Necarne, and called it fantastic with experienced operators.
Councillor Barry McElduff supported the effort and highlighted the value of such shows. McElduff referenced his familiarity with the Omagh County Show and noted DAERA provides no funding for these events, unlike the department in the South.
McElduff proposed a letter to DAERA requesting consideration of financial support. The chamber approved the proposal unanimously.
