Fermanagh Council Explores Restart of County Show
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council plans to investigate restarting the Fermanagh County Show. The event stopped running a couple of years ago due to rising costs and pressures on organisers.
Councillor Sheamus Greene raised the issue at a recent Policy and Resources Committee meeting. He noted the show drew large crowds from rural and urban areas. Greene attended events including the last one at Necarne Castle and called it fantastic.
Director of Community and Wellbeing John Boyle stated he knew of no plans for 2026 and had seen no sponsorship application, though the council would support one. Boyle mentioned previous indications that another group might take over but confirmed no awareness of that occurring.
Council chairman Councillor Barry McElduff proposed contacting DAERA for potential financial support to aid a fresh approach. The chamber approved the proposal unanimously.
The show operated as a two-day agricultural event. It moved to Necarne Castle in 2024 after a Covid-related absence.
