Derry City and Strabane Council Approves Funding for Healthy Weight Initiative
Derry City and Strabane District Council approved allocation of £14,217.20 from Public Health Agency funding to support the Whole Systems Approach for healthier weight. The decision came from the Health and Community Committee in February.
The funding covers the 2025/2026 financial year and supports delivery of Whole Systems Approach actions through Developing Healthy Communities. A Service Level Agreement with Developing Healthy Communities provides 80 hours of support for implementing the approach to obesity in the council area.
The agreement includes training to raise awareness and educate on how policy and practice decisions affect population health. It also covers youth engagement and education on healthier weight, plus video production.
The Public Health Agency leads the Whole Systems Approach initiative in partnership with councils. The program develops tailored strategies for healthy weight and guidance on processes to address obesity.
