Martin McCarney, 45, from Enniskillen appeared via videolink at Strabane Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of Ellie Flanagan, 23, on 7 March. He also faces charges of possessing three knives with intent to commit an offence.

Police discovered Flanagan's body at a house in the Corban Avenue area of Enniskillen while investigating a car crash on Carn Road near Tempo at around 9.15pm that evening. The car involved was registered to the address.

Detective Sergeant Pauline Boyce told the court she could connect McCarney to the charges. McCarney confirmed he understood them.

His solicitor conveyed McCarney's regret for the pain caused to Flanagan's family and the Enniskillen community by the events.

No bail application was made. The solicitor said no issues with the charges would be addressed at that hearing.

District Judge Alana McSorley remanded McCarney in custody for a next appearance at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court on 30 March. The court granted legal aid.
