Michael Morgan, 36, from Lisburn, received a 38-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to attempted robbery at a Lisburn supermarket. The sentencing occurred at Craigavon Crown Court on 10 March.

Morgan faced charges of possessing an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and possessing a class C controlled drug. He must serve 19 months in custody and 19 months on licence.

Police responded to a report on 7 March of a man entering the Warren Gardens store. The man showed a large knife to staff and attempted to take money from the cash register.

He left the store without obtaining money. Officers arrested Morgan that day after enquiries.

Detective Inspector Keon said police investigate reports to bring offenders to court and ensure victims receive justice. Contact police on 101 for non-emergencies or 999 in emergencies.
