A man from Tullykeeran Gardens in Maghera received a suspended jail term at court for possessing drugs. Stephen Johnston faced charges related to cannabis, buprenorphine and pregabalin found on March 30, 2024, and January 31, 2023.

Sentencing occurred after a deferral in July 2023. District Judge Conor Heaney reviewed a pre-sentence report that showed Johnston's efforts to tackle addiction.

Judge Heaney noted Johnston's determination to manage his life and maintain contact with the Probation Service. The judge imposed the suspended term and stated that Johnston must continue addressing his drug issues.

The court also ordered destruction of the drugs.
