The Brighter Ballymagorry Development Group marked ten years of operation in the Sperrin area. The group formed in 2016 when Leslie Hetherington and the late Joe Melarkey called a meeting in Ballymagorry. Eight people attended and created the initial committee.

Three original members remain active. The group received guidance from Kenny McFarland of the Sollus Centre in Bready to establish operations and secure funding. McFarland died two years ago.

BBDG has organised art classes, first aid training, walking groups and day trips for all ages. Members contributed to greenways linking Ballymagorry with Lough Foyle and Strabane. The group now supports a route to Artigarvan.

The group participates in the CARE Project with communities in Glenelly, Plumbridge, Park, Donemana and Artigarvan. This initiative promotes social inclusion for people over 50.

During the pandemic, BBDG delivered food packages and collected prescriptions and supplies for local residents. The council provided a list of houses to assist.

Leslie Hetherington seeks new volunteers. Current committee members are ageing. Meetings occur at Fox Lodge Cricket Club. Funding comes from the National Lottery and CARE Project. Participants join from Bready, Magheramason, Newtonstewart and other areas.
