Volunteers thanked as befriending project secures five-year funding
Volunteers from the Laurencetown, Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association have been recognised for their contributions during an appreciation event in the Banbridge area.
A group of 27 volunteers took part in bowling at Airtastic and a meal at Buba Drews, organised by the association. Representatives from the Craigavon and Banbridge Volunteer Bureau attended to present certificates.
The association thanked its volunteers for their ongoing commitment, noting that many work through the Connecting the Community project, providing one-to-one support to people aged over 65. Services include befriending, respite for unpaid carers, and help with technology.
The project has secured five years of funding to continue its work tackling isolation and loneliness among older people. It previously operated for four years with Lottery support and has now expanded to include Dromore, Banbridge, Lurgan, Portadown and Craigavon, in addition to rural areas.
Volunteers are needed to offer regular companionship, either through home visits or outings. Those interested can contact Louise or Nicki on 028 4062 3770 or email.
