Home heating oil prices in Northern Ireland rose more than 60 percent since last Friday. Over 60 percent of households rely on home heating oil. Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald instructed her department to notify suppliers and retailers to follow responsible practices and provide pricing transparency.

Archibald discussed the price increases with UK Energy Minister Michael Shanks and Irish Energy Minister Darragh O’Brien. Shanks stated no short-term supply risks exist. Archibald sought assistance like that provided after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Shanks agreed to track developments.

Doherty Fuels in Omagh, Tyrone, stopped accepting new orders this week. Owner Michael Doherty said weekly orders reached nearly 790, compared to a normal 200 to 300. The company received supply allocations and changed prices five times on Tuesday after an overnight increase of 14 pence per litre. It operates three tankers with limited stock.

ABC Oils, serving Craigavon, Dungannon, and Armagh, offers payment now or later. The firm checks tank levels and expects longer delivery times from high demand.

Pensioner Rosemary Quinn said 900 litres cost £535 last week and now exceeds £730.

Petrol stations raised some prices by 10 pence per litre overnight Monday. Averages stood at 133.4 pence per litre for petrol and 143.2 pence for diesel.

Derry City and Strabane District Council agreed Tuesday to request a meeting with Consumer Council representatives on price rises.
