Craigavon Man Faces Charges After Dangerous Driving Incident on Lurgan Railway Lines
Isaque Duarte, 42, from Meadowbrook in Craigavon, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court on charges of dangerous driving, possessing the Class C drug pregabalin, and failing to provide a specimen for an excess driving charge.
Police on mobile patrol in William Street, Lurgan, observed a black BMW driving away at speed shortly after midnight on January 18. The vehicle travelled down the centre of the road, crossed white lines, hit railway lines, lost control, and veered into the opposing lane.
Officers identified the driver as Duarte, who was under the influence of alcohol. Police took control of him after he tried to drive forward.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan noted the case met the custody threshold due to the significant risk to the public. He ordered a pre-sentence report.
Duarte's barrister, Aaron Thompson, stated his client's English is adequate and pointed to his prior court record.
The judge described the matter as serious, banned Duarte from driving in the interim, and adjourned the case to April 10.
