A security alert in Newry concluded after ammunition technical officers examined a suspicious object in the Ashgrove Park area. The item proved to be a viable but crude device. All cordons lifted and residents returned home.

Police received a report around 11.10am on Monday of a device left near Ashgrove Road. Officers established a safety zone and closed several roads. Technical experts attended the site to carry out checks.

Inspector Porter stated that the operation followed the initial report. Enquiries continue into the incident.
