Viable Pipe Bomb Found After Dungiven Security Alert
A security alert in Dungiven led to the discovery of a viable pipe bomb, prompting a controlled explosion and an overnight road closure.
The Foreglen Road was shut shortly before midday on Friday 17 July after a suspicious object was reported. Ammunition Technical Officers attended and located the suspected device.
Police said the item was made safe through a controlled explosion and later assessed as viable. Remnants were removed for forensic testing.
Searches in the area continued through the night and into Saturday morning. The road has since reopened.
North Area Engagement Chief Inspector Mullan thanked residents and motorists for their patience, acknowledging the disruption caused. He stated that public safety remained the priority.
