Designer Awarded Over £3,900 After Employer Fails to Appear at Tribunal
A Belfast employment tribunal has ruled in favour of a worker who brought claims for notice pay and holiday pay against his former employer, Motion R Design Ltd, ordering the company to pay a total of £3,973.63.
The tribunal, chaired by Employment Judge O'Neill and sitting with members Ms A Frew and Mr M McKeown, heard the case on 19 February 2026 at Belfast. The judgment was issued on 24 February 2026.
Benjamin Reid represented himself at the hearing. Motion R Design Ltd did not attend and was not represented. The Department of the Economy appeared as a notice party, represented by Ms A Moody and Mr P Cassidy of the Redundancy Payments Service.
The tribunal found Reid's claim for outstanding notice pay to be well-founded and ordered Motion R Design Ltd to pay him £3,645.00. His claim for holiday pay was also upheld, with the respondent ordered to pay a further £328.63.
The tribunal recorded Reid's gross weekly pay as £965.00, capped at £729.00 for calculation purposes, and noted he had completed five full years of service at the time his employment ended.
The judgment is a relevant judgment for the purposes of the Industrial Tribunals (Interest) Order (Northern Ireland) 1990, meaning interest may be applied to the sums awarded. The judgment is to be entered in the register within 21 days of issue.
