Tribunal Orders NI Design Firm to Pay Former Employee Over £3,000 in Redundancy and Notice Pay
An Employment Tribunal in Belfast has ordered Motion R Design Ltd to pay a former employee more than £3,000 following claims for outstanding redundancy and notice pay. The judgment, issued on 24 February 2026, found both claims well-founded.
Robert Formella brought the case against the company under case reference 26881/25IT. The tribunal ruled that Motion R Design Ltd must pay him £859.70 in outstanding redundancy pay and a further £2,292.52 in notice pay owed at the termination of his employment, bringing the total award to £3,152.22.
The hearing took place on 19 February 2026 in Belfast. Formella represented himself. The respondent company did not attend and was not represented. The Department of the Economy appeared as a notice party through the Redundancy Payments Service, represented by Ms A Moody and Mr P Cassidy.
The tribunal, chaired by Employment Judge O'Neill and sitting with members Ms A Frew and Mr M McKeown, delivered its judgment unanimously at the end of the hearing. The decision was based on a gross weekly pay figure of £573.13 and four complete years of service.
The judgment is a relevant decision for the purposes of the Industrial Tribunals (Interest) Order (Northern Ireland) 1990 and is to be entered in the register within 21 days of issue.
