Tesco has formally objected to Marks & Spencer's application for a new foodhall at Lakeland Retail Park in Enniskillen. The objection, submitted to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, argues that the relocation would harm the vitality, attractiveness, and viability of the town centre.

Marks & Spencer proposes to leave its current unit at Erneside Shopping Centre and build a 17,800 square foot foodhall, nearly three times the size of the existing store. The company states the new store would offer over 6,600 product lines and protect 68 existing jobs while creating three additional roles.

Tesco's objection follows earlier opposition from Muntermellan Ltd, the owners of Erneside Shopping Centre. Both parties argue the move would draw shoppers away from the town centre.

An M&S spokesperson said the proposal would bring an enhanced food offer to Enniskillen, providing greater choice and convenience. Regional Manager John Paul McShane noted that customer shopping habits are changing and the company is adapting its store estate to ensure the right stores are in the right locations.

M&S has encouraged public support for the plans. The planning application was submitted last year and remains under consideration by the local council.
