Youth Action hosted a closing event at the Maldron Hotel to mark the completion of its 'Let's Talk' initiative. The event brought together more than 180 young people from across the Derry and Strabane District Council area to reflect on their experiences in the project.

The initiative, supported by PEACEPLUS and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), was funded through Derry City and Strabane District Council's PEACEPLUS Local Co-Designed Action Plan under the theme of Celebrating Cultural Diversity.

'Let's Talk' aimed to provide a safe and inclusive space for young people to discuss their experiences, fears, and aspirations for the future. Participants took part in team building activities, health and wellbeing workshops, social inclusion sessions, and discussions on cultural identity, good relations, and anti-racism.

The programme included young people from both urban and rural communities and from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. They engaged in residential stays and educational visits.

Participants achieved accredited qualifications including OCN Youth Work Practice at Levels 1 and 2, OCN Event Management at Level 2, OCN Good Relations at Level 1, and non-accredited Youth Leadership Training.

A group of young Muslim participants produced an educational video, set for official launch during Good Relations Week in October, to educate others about their experiences.

The project also fostered collaboration by partnering with eight local youth projects. These partnerships have led to new opportunities to continue the work, with the projects expanding their efforts and inviting new community partners to join.
