A Derry woman has been remanded in custody after breaching bail conditions five days after being released on a wounding charge.

Courtney Temple, 22, of Spencer Road in the Waterside area, appeared at Derry Magistrates’ Court on Friday. She had been granted bail on Thursday.

Police were contacted at 9.30pm on September 24 by Temple's sister, who said she was withdrawing the bail address.

When located, Temple was intoxicated and gave a breath reading of 98 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal driving limit is 35 micrograms.

She was also in breach of her curfew and was in an area she was prohibited from entering under her bail conditions.

Opposing bail, a prosecutor cited the risk of reoffending and noted the breach occurred only five days after bail was granted.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said there had been no new offending. She said Temple had gone to her grandmother's house after court on Thursday and stayed there. Temple accepted she had been given a clear warning about bail, Rogan said.

District Judge Conor Heaney said the defendant had been given a clear warning and he had no confidence she would abide by conditions. Bail was refused and Temple was remanded in custody to appear again on October 22.

In an unrelated case at the same court, a 36-year-old woman received a suspended sentence for assaulting a nurse at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Catherine Brudget Maguire, of St Brecan's Park in the Waterside area, admitted the assault which occurred on March 14, 2025.

The court heard Maguire became aggressive and kicked the nurse while receiving treatment.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said Maguire thought she had kicked a table, not the nurse. He added that medical staff continued to treat her after the incident.

Judge Heaney noted the location of the offence and that it was directed against a healthcare worker. He said the custody threshold had been passed and imposed a two-month sentence suspended for 18 months.
