A 15-year-old girl faced Derry Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with 10 offences from March 27. The charges include affray and disorderly behaviour at Altnagelvin Hospital, assault on police, assault on a female, and stealing alcohol.

CCTV operators reported seeing the girl and another person take alcohol from a Tesco store around 2pm that day. Later at 7.30pm on Strand Road outside a hotel, she allegedly kicked a woman holding a child in the head. Members of the public stopped the assault.

The girl told police that she and her mother had been bitten in the incident. She said she took 31 tablets and was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in the Waterside area. There she became abusive toward an officer and threatened him.

Police stated she assaulted officers and required three to restrain her. She has 26 prior convictions and breached bail 23 times since last July. Police hold 61 case files on her.

A police officer told the court she poses a risk to the public and further offences are likely. The court refused bail. She will appear next at youth court in April.
