Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones has said that childhood summers spent in County Fermanagh helped her prepare for her latest film role. Edgar-Jones, 28, plays Elinor Dashwood in a new adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.

Edgar-Jones has family connections to Northern Ireland: her mother is from County Down, and she has relatives living in Fermanagh. She spent long periods in the county during her childhood.

Speaking about her time in Fermanagh, Edgar-Jones recalled the experience of wandering in the fields under a big sky. She said that this was similar to the wandering her character does in the film. She also said she feels welcome in Ireland and praised the people there.

The film is an adaptation of Austen's 1811 novel. It follows the Dashwood family after the father's death leaves them in financial difficulty. Elinor and her sister Marianne, played by Esmé Creed-Miles, move to Barton Cottage and face challenges of love and family.

The production features a largely Irish cast, including Caitriona Balfe and Fiona Shaw. Edgar-Jones previously spent five months in Ireland filming the drama Normal People, released in 2020.

Sense and Sensibility is due to arrive in cinemas on September 25.
