A Fermanagh man who rescued a person from Upper Lough Erne has received a Royal Humane Society Award.

Christopher Waldie was presented with the award on vellum at a reception in Enniskillen Townhall, hosted by the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Debbie Coyle.

The rescue happened last November. Mr Waldie was working near Castle Lough when he heard a cry for help. He investigated and found a man in difficulty in the water. He raised the alarm before entering the water and bringing the casualty to safety.

Mr Waldie is a Coastguard Rescue Officer. At the reception, Councillor Coyle said his actions showed his courage and selflessness. She said he acted without hesitation, and his professionalism and composure under pressure saved a life.

She said the award was fitting recognition of his bravery and dedication, and thanked him for his outstanding service to others.
