Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has visited the recently refurbished Traffic Information and Control Centre (TICC) in Belfast. The upgrade is intended to support more effective collaboration during severe weather and other emergencies, as well as improving day-to-day traffic management across Northern Ireland.

The centre, which operates continuously, is responsible for monitoring urban and motorway networks. Staff provide real-time updates to road users via the TrafficWatch website and social media, and they oversee the procurement, design, installation and maintenance of traffic signals and pedestrian crossings.

During her visit, the minister praised the team for their unseen but essential work, particularly in times of crisis or when the region hosts major events. She noted that the refurbished facility offers a modern setting for 24-hour operations and joint work with the Police Service and other agencies, especially as the need for storm responses and special event coordination increases.
