Infrastructure Minister Launches Recruitment for Road Maintenance Roles
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has started recruitment campaigns for Industrial Road Workers and Trainee Civil Engineering Assistants at the Department for Infrastructure. The positions support maintenance and improvement of Northern Ireland's road network.
Road workers will join teams across Northern Ireland to repair defects, clean gullies, cut grass, provide winter gritting, and respond to incidents for road safety and efficiency.
Trainee Civil Engineering Assistants will enter a Skills Academy run with Belfast Met. The programme offers four weeks of paid pre-employment training and leads to qualifications for roles like road inspector, laboratory technician, or site supervisor.
Kimmins stated that the department needs skilled people to maintain and manage the road network. She noted that the roles help perform necessary maintenance and offer careers in essential public services.
Belfast Met Principal and Chief Executive Damian Duffy said the partnership with the department supports a skilled workforce for public services and infrastructure. He added that the programme provides training for careers within the department and aids sustainable economic development.
Applications for both positions close on 31 March 2026.
