Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has set out measures her department is taking to support economic growth in the Greater Newry area.

Kimmins spoke at a Newry Chamber event. She highlighted the importance of the area's position on the Belfast-Dublin corridor.

She noted increased passenger numbers on the Belfast-Dublin Enterprise service following higher service frequency.

An investment of £548 million has been announced for a new Enterprise train fleet, including around £200 million from her department. The upgrades are intended to deliver faster and more reliable cross-border journeys and support decarbonisation of transport.

Kimmins stated her ongoing commitment to A1 junction improvements and the Southern Relief Road, describing both as beneficial for the Greater Newry area.

She also addressed wastewater network issues. She said NI Water had identified solutions that will allow development capacity in Newry for up to 10 years, including around 400 new housing and business connections.
