Council Observes Silence for Ballymena Family and Broadcaster Gerry Kelly
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has observed a one-minute silence in memory of three members of a Ballymena family found dead in their home earlier this month.
Alderman Tom Gordon told a full council meeting on Monday that he learned of the deaths with deep sadness. A woman, aged 39, and her eight-year-old daughter were murdered, police have confirmed. The sudden death of a 41-year-old man at the same address on Cullybackey Road on July 13 remains under investigation.
Councillors also extended condolences to the family of Gerry Kelly, the former UTV presenter, who died on July 26. Mr Kelly grew up in the Thomas Street area of Ballymena. His funeral took place at St Nicholas' Church in Ardglass, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
The mayor expressed the council's sympathies to all those affected by recent road traffic incidents before the silent tribute.
