Enniskillen Player Earns Ireland Touch Rugby Call-Up
A County Fermanagh woman has been selected for the Ireland women's over-35 touch rugby squad for next week's European Championships in France.
Harriet Gibson, from Enniskillen, will travel to Vichy with the national team after impressing at trials. She only took up the sport in January, joining the newly formed Enniskillen Touch Rugby club.
She is the first player from the club to receive international recognition. The squad is coached by Paul Brown.
The club has grown quickly since its launch earlier this year. Earlier this month, Enniskillen RFC hosted its annual touch tournament at Mullaghmeen, with nine teams taking part. Two of those came from the Enniskillen Touch club, alongside five other local sides and visitors from Letterkenny.
Gibson brings extensive sporting experience to the national team. A former schools athletics champion, she previously represented Ulster in interprovincial rugby and was part of the Enniskillen RFC side that won the Ulster Cup. She had come close to international selection during her rugby career.
The club described her selection as a proud moment in its history.
