Ballymena Community Holds Vigil for Chloe Mitchell Ahead of Court Resumption
A vigil took place in the Harryville area of Ballymena on Sunday 8 March to remember Chloe Mitchell. The 21-year-old died in June 2023. The event supported the Mitchell and McDowell families ahead of court proceedings resuming later this week.
North Antrim MLA Sian Mulholland spoke at the vigil at the family's invitation. She noted the strength and dignity shown by the Mitchell and McDowell families. Mulholland highlighted the support from residents of Harryville and broader Ballymena since Mitchell's death.
The gathering occurred on International Women’s Day. Mulholland stated that the community response provides comfort to the families during their difficulties. She indicated that locals stand with the families in their pursuit of justice.
The Mitchell and McDowell families organised the vigil with assistance from the Harryville community. Mulholland has assisted the families since 2023. Her efforts included arranging talks between the Criminal Bar Association and the family to enable the trial during the association's strike.
